APPLE. AN INTRODUCTION. (OVER AND OVER AND ONCE AGAIN)

A project by Paweł Freisler and Antje Majewski. With Brigham Baker, Jimmie Durham, Agnieszka Polska and Didier Rittener.

The exhibition revolves around the apple – the fruit we think we know best. Apples are a prime example of the infinite variety that nature can produce from one basic form. But they also touch on themes such as food production and debates on genetic research. Considering the apple thus challenges us to reflect on how we have domesticated the natural world.

Initiated by artists Antje Majewski and Paweł Freisler, the apple project with its manifold artistic, scientific-cultural-historical, and political dimensions has been realised at various locations since 2014. The exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Thun is the largest and most comprehensive thus far for the project and assembles works from all previous project venues. For the exhibition in Thun, independent works on the subject of apples by the Swiss artists Brigham Baker and Didier Rittener have been assembled. Furthermore, selected exhibits from the collection of the Kunstmuseum Thun will also be on view.
