Werner Weiskönig

Werner Weiskönig was born in Chemnitz in 1907. His father was the lithographer Paul Weiskönig. At the age of three he and his family moved to St Gallen. He left the cantonal school early and trained as a graphic artist at the Kunstgewerbeschule [School of Arts and Crafts] in St Gallen. At the age of 18 he received his first commission for stamp designs. In 1930 he continued his studies for one year at the Kunstakademie [Academy of Art] in Düsseldorf. Back in St Gallen he set up his own business as a graphic artist. He went on frequent long trips – to Belgium and Holland in 1930 and North Africa in 1949. He died in St Gallen in 1982.
