Cantonale artists on their work – Pedro Rodriques

In my current projects, I am exploring the interaction between humans and nature in alpine regions. In my work CONTROL OF NATURAL, I examine how erosion and empty spaces are altered by construction, how protective structures shape landscapes, and what traces of human control remain in natural spaces. Another topic I am currently working on is the return of Portuguese people who have lived in Switzerland as migrant workers. In this project, I explore the experiences of living between two countries and the feelings of those involved. The project ENTRE PASSOS E SAUDADE processes this process in visual form.

For my projects, I am often on the road and work in different locations, which entail different working conditions. These changing environments have a decisive influence on my way of working, as they challenge me to be productive and can give rise to new perspectives on the topics I am exploring. The works differ from one another accordingly. Many of these approaches would probably not have emerged in this form in a constant, unchanging working environment. So I would say that I constantly overcome boundaries by devoting myself to new subject areas.

Photography has always been my preferred medium. I am fascinated by the entire process, from research and image design to the final form of presentation. Photography allows me to capture personal observations and interpret them in a variety of narratives. I find the construction of images particularly appealing, whether through the choice of image detail or the deliberate composition of image motifs. Over the years, I have developed various forms of representation that can be expanded through combination with other media such as video, installation or sound. The different design possibilities continuously inspire me to create new and exciting projects.
