Cantonale artists on their work – Livio Casanova
I work with images from books and the internet, found textiles, a sewing machine, paint and brushes. This allows me to do whatever I want. Topics that interest me and that I explore artistically include crowbars, Bob Thompson, Goya, Emma Amos, witch hunts, Edvard Munch, Artemisia Gentileschi, Lucas Cranach the Elder and textiles.
One of the reasons I work with materials such as textiles is because they are spatially flexible and the space in my studio is limited.
In Switzerland, there is generally a self-centred mentality and a policy of double standards. I try to live a modest and fulfilling life. Sometimes I wish I were part of a big city, but I have come to terms with the fact that this is not the case at the moment.
