Cantonale artists on their work – Fabio Luks
I am currently interested in structures that separate and connect at the same time: walls, partitions and surfaces, for example. Or elements that conceal something while allowing a view through them – windows, doors and holes, for example. I am also interested in the interplay between visibility and concealment, and between observing and being observed. I also find topics such as the uncanny, architecture and people, space and language very exciting. I work primarily with oil on canvas and ink on paper, i.e. with analogue materials that allow for a directness and immediacy that I really like. I appreciate the luminosity of oil paints and the possibility of working very fluidly, but also impasto. I apply the ink to the paper with both a pen and a brush. Unlike oil paints, ink is difficult to correct, which challenges me but also appeals to me. With a small child and a part-time job, my time in the studio is limited. I try to be as productive as possible in the hours I have available, or to do smaller paper works at home in the evening.
