Cantonale artists on their work – Carolina Piasecki

I am interested in topics such as migration, feeling at home in a foreign country, and social inequality. I think it is important not to have fixed ideas, but to be open to new places, people and experiences. That is inspiring. I am also always in favour of leaving your comfort zone. As a photographer, I work both digitally and analogously. For my woodcuts and prints, I use natural materials such as wood and paper. Photography allows me to capture a moment, to act something out or to document it. Wood is an ‘unpredictable’ material – you have to be prepared for the fact that what you have planned will not always look exactly as you imagined it. You have to be open and allow the grain and wood fibres to influence your work, for example.
