The world has survived because it loves to laugh

Die Gastausstellung des Hauses für Humor und Satire Gabrovo/Bulgarien ist vom 22. April bis 30. Mai im Kunst Museum Thun zu sehen. Das Haus für Humor und Satire ist ein bulgarisches Kulturinstitut, das sich mit dem unvergänglichen menschlichen Sinn für Humor beschäftigt: »Geboen,, wurde das Haus am 1. April 1972 im Herzen Bulgariens in der Bergstadt Gabrovo (83’000 Einwohner), dessen Einwohner eine grosse Vorliebe für Witze und lustigen Geschichten haben. Es erfreut sich des beneidenswerten Ruhms, ein international bekanntes Zentrum für Humor und Satire zu sein. Das Haus sammelt Humor und Satire als Ausdruck- mittel in der bildenden Kunst, Literatur, Fotografie, Film, Theater, Plakat, Philatelie und studiert den Humor und die Satire in der Folklore und Lebens- weise der verschiedenen Völker. Die Datenbank des Hauses enthält 10’236 Künstleradressen und 8’479 Adressen von Instituten aus 87% aller Länder der Welt.

Since 1973, the International Biennial of Humor and Satire in Art has been held every odd-numbered year under the motto “The world has survived because it loves to laugh.” To date, 14 International Biennales of Humor and Satire in Art, 7 international comedy film festivals, and 280 exhibitions have taken place over the course of more than 25 years, with the House presenting its work in Europe, Africa, North America, and the Middle East. In the halls of the Kunst Museum Thun, transformed into a recreational oasis, visitors can view the collected works from Gabrovo (photographs, caricatures, paintings, and jokes) while sitting on park benches surrounded by greenery.
