Sophie Calle
Regard incertain
As one of the most important contemporary artists, Sophie Calle (*1953) deals with the thematic triangle of life, love and death. In minutely documented quests she often reflects the conditions of artistic self-realisation and self-portrayal at the end of the 20th century. In recent years, the private passion, exhibitionism and compulsion to observe increasingly got a social colouring, without the actions themselves losing any of their closeness. For her, photography is simultaneously a medium and a tool; she tells stories in images, while the written word also plays a central role.
For the first time in Switzerland, Fotomuseum Winterthur and Kunstmuseum Thun together present Sophie Calle’s comprehensive work in a two-part exhibition.
