First solo exhibition in Switzerland by the Danish artist and pilot Simone Aaberg Kærn

In a series of works, Simone Aaberg Kærn explores the role of women in aviation. Using various media such as photography, painting, objects and interviews, Aaberg Kærn explores the social, historical and political dimensions of aviation, bringing them together in the exhibition space to form installations. Documentary evidence such as historical photographs meets contemporary images and events, leaving room for poetic moments: In particular, humanity’s age-old dream of flying and freedom in the air is a recurring theme in Simone Aaberg Kærn’s work. The dream of flight—known above all through the story of Icarus—of soaring like a bird symbolises a spectrum of images and ideas ranging from transcendental experiences or the thrill of altitude to technical challenges and the fascination with mechanical flying machines.

For the artist, mastering a flying machine and its speed also sparks curiosity about gender-specific issues and the still rare sight of a woman in the cockpit.
