RENÉE LEVI
The last solo exhibition by the Swiss artist Renée Levi, who is renowned internationally, took place in 2000 at the Musée d’art moderne et contemporain (Mamco) in Geneva. For the Kunstmuseum Thun, she will create new works and stage existing groups of works specifically for the gallery spaces. The artist works subtly with installative compositions of colour and light, thereby setting new standards in the perception of space and position. Large-scale installation works are planned, through which viewers can experience Levi’s precise handling of light, colour and space: the museum spaces of the former Grand Hotel serve as a setting for a dialogue between an abstract and powerful painterly language and the existing architecture.
A catalogue (German/English) accompanying the exhibition is being published by Christoph Merian Verlag, featuring texts by Dominique Abensour (curator, Paris), Helen Hirsch (director of Kunstmuseum Thun), Lyle Rexer (art critic and curator, New York) and Prof. Dr Philip Ursprung (University of Zurich). Supported by Binding Sélection d’Artistes.
