Urbanisation and globalisation are popular themes in art today. With ‘Profession: Farmer’, a collection exhibition featuring guest artists, the Kunstmuseum Thun offers a shift in perspective, placing agriculture at the centre of attention, as it continues to shape and define our lives and our surroundings. The Kunstmuseum Thun’s collection bears witness to the significance that agriculture held in art until not so long ago. The exhibition takes as its starting point works from the museum’s own collection, supplemented by pieces by contemporary artists as well as older photographic works. Particular emphasis is placed on the lives and work of farmers today, 60 years ago and in earlier times, but also on questions regarding the visibility of agriculture and what happens to our environment when it is absent.

With works by:
Peter Ammon, Eduard Boss, Arnold Brügger, Max Buri, Werner Engel, Patrik Fuchs, Oliver Gemperle, Gabriela Gerber and Lukas Bardill, Tue Greenfort, Ferdinand Hodler, Bernhard Huwiler, Franz Niklaus König, Reto Leibundgut, Gottfried Matter, Ernst Ramseier, Antje Schiffers and Thomas Sprenger, Albert Schnyder, Emil Zbinden, Arthur Zeller.
