The experimental series Olfactory exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Thun deals with the question, “How does art smell?” It consists of four parts and contains the works from the museum’s collection and is dedicated to scent in and around art. Art and smell do not come together very often, the sensual in the visual arts being virtually limited to seeing and hearing. Nevertheless fragrances have long been a part of art – from the material to the subject, whether physically present, in memory or imagination.

In project room enter the Kunstmuseum Thun presents the second exhibition of the series, Olfactory exhibition, which deals with the topic of art and scent. After the first exhibition that was focussed on the smell of the material, In the open air will deal with the subjects of the art works. Specific works from the collection that deal with depictions of nature will be shown.
