LANDSCAPES IN TRANSITION:
WORKS FROM THE COLLECTION

The urban sprawl across the Swiss landscape continues unabated, extending into the Alpine valleys and the Jura. This ‘urban encroachment’ is becoming increasingly evident in the mountain landscapes. Moreover, the concrete and steel structures of Alpine infrastructure are permanently altering the appearance of mountains and valleys. The works in this year’s collection exhibition bear striking witness to these changes. Through depictions that are at times idyllic, but also utopian, spanning from the 19th century to the present day, artists illustrate the transformation, evolution and disappearance of entire landscapes. The exhibition is complemented by further works by Reto Camenisch, Rainer Eisch, Christian Helmle, Monica Ursina Jäger and Reto Steiner.
