DECODING SPACES: (PRE)CONCEPTIONS, TRACES AND ALGORITHMS
The second project of the series PIXELS & PATINA combines a study of the collection with a critical investigation of algorithmic processes and their effects on social perceptions. Students are creating interactive installation and performative works that place the collection in a new context, thereby shedding light on the themes of surveillance, prejudice and digital identity. Together, these two projects launch a multifaceted dialogue on how art and collecting are being transformed in the digital age while interrogating the effects of this sea change on our perception of space, identity and culture.
The PIXELS & PATINA project series examines what happens when traditional art meets up with digital media and critical reflections on social spaces. In collaboration with Bern Academy of the Arts (HKB), two interdisciplinary educational projects are taking an innovative approach to engaging with the museum’s collection and current digital issues.
