Cantonale Berne Jura 2014

At the end of the year, the Kunstmuseum Thun is presenting the Cantonale Berne Jura Christmas exhibition under the title Formsache (A Matter of Form). For the first time, the exhibition in Thun is being curated thematically. The exhibition focuses on form – in terms of both content and formal aspects. Paintings, photographs, sculptures, films, and drawings explore the theme of form in different ways. Geometric compositions are juxtaposed with forms from nature or changes in form. This year’s jury, consisting of Ueli Biesenkamp, Marianne Flubacher, Laurence Schmidlin, Loredana Sperini, Barbara Berger, and Anja Seiler, selected 29 positions from this year’s 395 submissions.

As a tribute to the curatorial theme, two works by Burkhard Hilty (*1929) from the collection of the Kunstmuseum Thun are on display. In his artistic work, the Thun-based artist developed an expressive formal language that is reflected in different ways in the two works presented.

The intercantonal Christmas exhibition Cantonale Berne Jura was launched in 2011 by art galleries and museums in the cantons of Bern and Jura. Spread across the various institutions, it offers regional artists an important and broad platform. The range of institutions has expanded over the years – this year, artists can exhibit at the Kunsthaus Interlaken, the Kunstmuseum Thun, the Kunsthalle and Stadtgalerie in Bern, the Kunsthaus Langenthal, the Centre PasquArt in Biel, the Musée jurassien des Arts in Moutier, La Nef in Le Noirmont, and Les Halles in Porrentruy.
