Yves Mettler was born in Morges in 1976. From 1996, he studied at the École supérieure des arts visuels in Geneva, graduating with distinction in 2002. Between 1999 and 2001 he enrolled in the New Media Master Class at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. In 2010, he enrolled on a course of study at the Institut d’études politiques de Paris, which he completed at the same time as his Master’s degree at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris. He has held assistant and teaching positions at universities in Geneva and Berlin since 2004, and also hosts various workshops. He has been showing his work in solo and group exhibitions throughout the world since 2004, including at the Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, the Kunstmuseum Thun, the Hamburger Bahnhof gallery in Berlin, and Bozar in Brussels. Mettler’s work has received numerous awards, and he has been awarded scholarships such as the Havanna Travel Fellowship from Pro Helvetia (2012) and the Research Grant of the Senate Department for Culture and Europe in Berlin. He lives and works in Berlin.
