Werner Otto Leuenberger

Werner Otto Leuenberger was born in Bern in 1932. After a four-year apprenticeship as a photolithographer, he attended the Kunstgewerbeschule [School of arts and crafts] in Bern. From 1952 to 1959 he worked as a lithographer in Basel, and from 1955 in Bern. He then worked as a freelance artist. He exhibited for the first time in 1956. Other exhibitions followed, including his first solo exhibition at Bern’s Galerie 33 in 1956. He received numerous prizes and scholarships, including an award at the 5th São Paulo Biennial in 1959, and the Aeschlimann Corti Scholarship in 1965. He died in Bern in 2009.
