FilterWerner Eberli
Werner Eberli was born in Frauenfeld in 1930. After cantonal school in Frauenfeld, he be-gun an apprenticeship as a painter and decorator and attended the Gewerbeschule [voca-tional school] in Weinfelden. Following an accident, he had to abandon his apprenticeship and, once recovered, he enrolled in the graphics department at the Kunstgewerbeschule [school of arts and crafts] in Zurich. He then spent time in Paris, where he attended courses and met artist and glass painter Johann Jakob Zemp. Back in Zurich, he devoted himself to picture restoration and took courses in Ernst Wehrli’s Freie Kunstschule [free art school]. After returning to Frauenfeld, he opened his own studio. He mainly explored stained glass and mosaics, and also taught drawing and painting. He took up a position as stage de-signer at the Kellertheater in Mannheim, and was then offered a position as TV-set design-er in San Francisco. A family misfortune put paid to his plans, however, and he moved back to Gottlieben in the canton of Thurgau in 1960. He founded an advertising and design stu-dio. After 10 years, he once again fully devoted himself to art, and received numerous commissions for art projects in public space and showed his works in solo and group exhi-bitions. Eberli died in Münsterlingen in 2013.
