Philipp Schaerer was born in Zurich in 1972. He studied architecture at EPFL in Lausanne between 1994 and 2000. As a knowledge manager, he helped shape the designs of the architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron for six years from 2000. Between 2003 and 2008 he directed the postgraduate CAAD course at ETH Zurich. Schaerer has been teaching at various universities in Switzerland since 2010, and has been a visiting professor of art and architecture at EPFL Lausanne since 2014. Schaerer has been a freelance artist since 2008. He shows his works at home and abroad, such as at the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam (2009), the ZKM Karlsruhe (2015), and in a solo exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Olten (2022). Schaerer lives and works in Zurich and Steffisburg.
