FilterMaurice Barraud
Maurice Barraud was born in Geneva in 1889. As part of his graphic art studies, he attended courses at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva. In 1914, Barraud and his brother François, along with Hans Berger, Émile Bressler and Gustave Buchet, founded the artist group “Le Falot”. Starting in 1917, the group published a journal for two years, for which Barraud designed the cover. In the 1920s, Barraud travelled a great deal: Paris, Spain, Italy and North Africa. In 1929 he was commissioned to produce a mural for the large hall of the former railway station in Lucerne, followed by another commission for the Palace of Nations [headquarters of the League of Nations] in Geneva in 1935. In 1938, he bought a farmhouse in Cassis-sur-Mer on the Côte d’Azur and thereafter commuted between Geneva and the south of France. Barraud died in Geneva in 1954.
