Martin Disler was born in Seewen in 1949. He went to the Catholic boarding school in Stans in 1962 but had to leave for disciplinary reasons in 1968. In 1969 he opened his first studio in Solothurn together with the painter Agnes Barmettler, whom he married a year later. He exhibited for the first time in 1970, followed by exhibitions in Solothurn, Basel and Chur. That same year he moved to Olten. A year later he moved to Dulliken and in 1978 to Zurich. In 1985, after a two-year stay in Paris, Disler moved to Samedan with his second wife Irene Grundel, before settling in Les Planchettes in 1988. He died in Geneva in 1996.
