Maria Tackmann was born in Wattenwil (Bern) in 1982. From 1999 to 2004 she attended the preliminary course and the specialist class in graphics at the Schule für Gestaltung [School of Design] in Biel. Tackmann studied at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe [State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe] between 2007 and 2012, and was a Master’s student under Professor Silvia Bächli from 2012 to 2013. She has been showing her work in solo and group exhibitions, particularly in Switzerland and Germany, since 2010. Tackmann has received various prizes, grants and scholarships since 2010, including the prize of the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe (2010), and the city of Thun Atelierstipendium [studio scholarship] in Cairo (2019). She has been living and working in Wald (Appenzell Ausserrhoden) since 2021.
