Jakob Jenzer

Jakob Jenzer was born in Auenhofen (TG) in 1953. He went to school in Thun and Steffisburg. From 1969 to 1973 he completed a carpenter’s apprenticeship, and then went on to attend the Kunstgewerbeschule [School of Arts and Crafts] in Bern until 1977. He has been working as a freelance artist since 1978. In 1979 he studied lithography with Richi Steffen in Langenthal. In 1980 he started to spend longer periods abroad, such as in London in 1980, India and Nepal in 1981/82, The Hague in 1988 and Italy in the early 1990s. From 1983 he had a communal studio in Thun mill, and then later in Steffisburg. Since 1978 he has been showing his works in solo and group exhibitions, such as the Kunstsammlung Steffisburg [Steffisburg Art Collection] in 2003, the Kunstmuseum Thun in 1988, and the Kunstmuseum Bern in 1978. Jenzer has won numerous prizes and scholarships, such as a grant from the municipality of Steffisburg in 1985, a studio scholarship for Varanasi (India) in 2007, and the Kulturpreis [Cultural Prize] of the city of Thun in 2009. Jenzer lives and works in Steffisburg, and in Lubriano, Italy.
