FilterIlona Rüegg
Ilona Ruegg was born in Rapperswil in 1949. Between 1970 and 1972 she studied at the Université de Vincennes in Paris, and between 1978 and 1980 at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Between 1984 and 2011, Ruegg lived in Frankfurt, Brussels, Turin and Rome. She returned to Switzerland in 2012 and has been working in Zurich ever since. Ruegg’s artistic work is characterised by an intensive exploration of visual perception. By detaching objects from their everyday context, she opens up new areas of interpretation and shows us the diversity of meaning in her themes. In addition to painting, graphics is a key medium of expression for Ruegg. Her drawings initially appear as barely controlled ink and mixed media works. She often goes on to use manuscript paper onto which she transfers images she finds in household account books. Ruegg’s work thus develops in cycles. Her work has something poetic and dynamic about it, which masterfully captures and depicts the speed and fragility of the moment.
