Giro Annen was born in Chur in 1957. Between 1975 and 1981 he completed an apprenticeship as a photographer and cameraman. He has been living in Bern since 1979, and working as a freelance artist since 1983. Annen started to show his works in solo and group exhibitions in 1986, including at the Shedhalle Zurich in 1988, the Kunsthalle Bern in 1992, the Kunstmuseum Bern in 1998, and the Kunsthaus Langenthal in 2006. In 1993 and 1994, he received a Swiss Federal Art Scholarship. In 1994 he was the first ever recipient of the Förderpreis [sponsorship award] to be awarded by the Art Commission of the City of Bern, and won a scholarship from the Commission for Art and Architecture of the Canton of Bern for a six-month stay at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. He lives and works in Bern.
