Chantal Hug

Chantal Hug was born in Sulgen in 1937. After secondary school she attended the commercial course at the Melchtal boarding school for girls. Afterward she did teacher training at the college in Kreuzlingen. Hug taught in Fischingen and at the Melchtal Institute before entering the Benedictine Convent of St. Niklaus von Flüe in Melchtal in 1960. From 1962 to 1965, she trained as a secondary school teacher in Fribourg and then taught as a nurse in a boarding school until 1998. Sister Chantal then trained in sculpture and painting with teachers including Brother Xaver Ruckstuhl in Engelberg and Ernst Wicki in Menznau. Since 2019, she has lived and worked at the Benedictine Convent in Sarnen.
