Bernhard Hefti was born in Thun in 1945. He began an apprenticeship in his father Friedrich’s stonemasonry and sculpture business, and continued his studies at the Kunstgewerbeschule [School of arts and crafts] in Zurich before returning to Thun in 1967. From 1972 to 1982 he taught in Bern and St Gallen. In 1973, Hefti passed his sculptor and master stonemason’s exams and took over the family business three years later in 1976. He was always involved in art alongside the stonemasonry business and displayed his works in exhibitions. Between 1983 and 1986 he was a member of the City of Thun’s Kommission für bildende Künste [Fine Arts Commission]. After a serious illness, Hefti died in Thun in 1995.
